Picking up from two weeks ago.  I finished the last two days of #WreckNRule on twitter. I also had some brainstorming moments.

Day 6 was focused on Nome Wreckers or the Wreckers from Sins of the Wreckers.  My husband often wants me to do more feminine work, so Arcee was his suggestion.  I only did lines for this one, after doing so much ink on the Overlord piece the day before.

Day 7 was Villians.  I stuck to Sins again and had a blast drawing Tarantulus.  I think of the drawings I did for that week he was my favorite. :)

With that theme week done, I was stuck with not knowing what to work on.  Thankfully, my husband has a new toy and had snapped some photos that night.  I spent two evenings sketching Optimal Optimus out.  When I was finally happy with the lines I dug out my brush pen and inked the lines.

Midweek I was feeling kind of down.  It was requested that I try working with a silly meme to try to cheer myself up a little bit. This is the original meme requested:

There are so many good choices for this meme (and apparently its an old meme I've never seen before...) from the Transformers.  I decided to do Rodimus and Getaway.  Since I wasn't in a great mood, I kept it simple.  I plan on trying to do a second version of these two being a bit more in character and more actiony.  This one isn't really interesting.

That evening I couldn't sleep.  I was restless and thinking too much.  Feeling down about myself and my drawings and lots of other things. Thanks, depression, and anxiety.  Somehow among all of that, I made myself to draw late that night.  Lost Light 14 previews were posted so sites were blowing up with DJD.  Using those images I drew out a decent Tarn and inked him. It made the next day a bit more manageable knowing that I did have something decent in me still.

I switched up my desktop wallpaper at work this past week, and I found myself just staring at the line and color work. It's a piece by Alex Milne. He's been one of my favorite comic book artists since being introduced to comic books. He adds so much detail and expression that it's hard for me not to get sucked into an image he has done. As I was staring at the lines my mind began to drift to a tip many artists have said: Find artists that you like, and draw what they have drawn. Learn their style so you can develop your own style.

I've always been big in doing detailed, realistic type of drawings. I get frustrated with a lot of things I do because they feel so flat and lifeless. It hadn't really clicked in my brain before, but I should be looking at Alex's work, study from his works. Now, I'm not quite bold enough to jump into trying to draw one of his pieces, at least I haven't seen one "simple" enough for me to feel I could do it justice. But I did get to thinking about ways that I could reach a bit of that comfort level. What if I did a study of robot body parts.

My husband has recently bought some really nice third-party toys. I got to staring at them and thinking about how detailed and articulated they were. I began looking at other toys around me, and my brain kind of went crazy for some of the transformers' legs. Some of those robots have hella nice legs. I grabbed my MP Optimus Prime from his shelf and got to inspecting his legs up close. Nice and detailed, just what I was looking for. I snapped a few photos from different angles and started drawing. Just a few small sketches each night (even just one sketch takes me close to an hour to complete). I currently have a nice page dedicated to Optimus's right leg.

I debate on working on the left leg, even just trying to do mirror images of the right ones I have drawn out, just to feel out how the other side works. I find sometimes it is easy to do one side, but try and do the other and it gets kind of difficult for some reason. But, the husband has been enjoying my leg work that he wants to see how I do with a more complex robot leg, the leg of his Optimal Primal. That one would be a fun challenge with his toes. Not many robots have toes that can be posed like this one can.

I had an idea for an image on my way home from work. Shortly after getting home I sat down and did a quick sketch of the idea.

I spend 30 minutes on that, and for me that is fast. I'm not happy with the legs, but I plan to transfer this image into a digital format and I can rework them a little more. I was able to get the main pose I was after.

I feel like the couple of posts I've done have been way too long.  I think I am going try doing weekly posts to attempt to shorten them.  All with the things I've mused about in this post, and other projects I haven't shared yet, I'm going to try to do a simple drawing every day in February. I was inspired by an artist on twitter who is doing a sketch a day notebook ( if you have a chance to check him out).  As worried as I am about getting burnt out like I did for inktober, I'm hoping that keeping things fun and simple will keep that from happening.

Every one have a great week!
